Zero Stray Academy

"Zero Stray Academy" (ZSA) is the first online academy that teaches municipalities across Greece how to systematically reduce the number of strays. ZSA packages our knowledge from systematically reducing the number of strays in municipalities like Aegina and amplifies our experiences by inviting 25 of the best subject matter experts across Greece to talk about important topics, such as the legal framework, what processes municipalities must follow, how to drive prevention programs, how to set up a municipal shelter and work on stray management programs. Those 25 subject matter experts serve as professors and help municipalities by teaching an immense amount of knowledge to drive change.

To combine forces, 25 of the best of the best subject matter experts across Greece decided to teach at Zero Stray Academy to bundle all the knowledge and use Zero Stray Academy as a vehicle to drive SUSTAINABLE CHANGE for companion animals over the course of one training course over 5 weeks and 21 classes. And the best of all: Our Zero Stray Academy faculty provides their time free of charge to drive real systematic change across Greece. These experts include:

1. The chief economic advisor to the prime minister “Alex Patelis” who recognizes strays as being bad for the economy in Greece;

2. The president of the central union of Greek municipalities (KEDE), mayor of Trikala Dimitris Papastergiou;

3. The Deputy Chief of the Police of Heraklion Nikos Chrissakis, author of the landmark book ‘The Legal Status of Animals in the Greek legal order’;

4. Kostis Tokadlides, lawyer to the Greek Supreme Court, Law Professor at University of London who participated in the trial of ‘Hector’ which led to a change in legislation, classifying animal abuse a felony;

5. Marsha Dimopoulou, exceptional lawyer specialized in Animal Law;

6. Leonidas Christopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Transformation where the National Pet Registry will be housed;

7. Manos Vorrisis, a famous veterinarian in Greece, expert in cat sterilization;

8. Zoe Kontou, president of Vets in Action for Greece;

9. Mihalis Christakis, President of the National Association of Municipal Secretary Generals and Professor of political science at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens;

10. Takis Proestakis who founded the famous Takis shelter in Crete and saved thousands of animals;

11. Georgia Diamantapoulou, EU Companion Animal Policy at Four Paws;

12. Erietta Karabetsou, behavior counselor, certified separation anxiety trainer (CSAT) specializing in dog bite safety;

13. Serafina Avramidou, deputy mayor responsible for companion animals at the municipality of Athens, member of SAPT and GAWF;

14. Katerina Papapostolou, certified teacher for special education, author of animal education books;

15. Evangelos Drivas, police officer and founder of ‘report animal abuse’, a clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive therapy;

16. Dimitris Grammatikakis, expert of positive training;

17. Vassilis Tzigouras, Founder of Plus2feet handmade wheelchairs who produced thousands of wheelchairs and who generously will donate some wheelchairs to municipalities who look after handicapped pets;

18. Irini Tapouti who has served as veterinarian for over 40 years and who saved thousands of animals often on pro Bono basis, expert in sterilization;

19. Athanasia Triantaphyllopoulou, Professor of Development and Local Government at the university of Peleponnese;

20. Ioannis Gaitanakis, head of the Municipal Police of Ierapetra, Crete, currently working on a doctoral dissertation ‘The effects of pet abuse on tourism in Greece’;

21. Maria Papamichael, a political scientist, member of OSCE (Organization for Security in Europe) and research associate at the Ministry of Defense.
